Vehicles in Omnitracs XRS

When Omnitracs XRS refers to the management of "Vehicles," what is actually being referred to is "Relays." The way Omnitracs XRS identifies and monitors a vehicle is by communicating with the Relay that has been installed on each vehicle. When you are adding, editing, moving, or uninstalling a Relay, it's important to ensure that the Relay correctly identifies which vehicle it is assigned to. A Relay can only be connected to—and can only monitor—one vehicle at a time.
Use the Manage Vehicles window to see a list of vehicles with options to add, edit, delete, uninstall, import/export, or move.  See attached Vehicle Field Definitions for more detail on the column headings.

From the Admin menu, select Vehicles. The Manage Vehicles window opens.

From the Manage Vehicles window you can:

Navigating the Manage Vehicles Window

Filtering Results

To filter vehicle results, choose Organization, Status, or Resource Group from the Filter selection:
  1. Choose which filter to search by.
  2. Select the check box next to the criteria you would like to view.
  3. Select Save.

To clear all filters, select the Reset icon .

Searching Results

To search the list:
  1. Select the Search icon   in the lower left corner of the window.
  2. Enter a search term in the Find box.
  3. From the drop-down list, select which field to search by (Vehicle ID, TGT Number, VIN, Manufacturer, or Model).
  4. Press Enter on your keyboard to return a list of vehicles that match the search criteria.

You can enhance your search by using “wildcard” characters—special characters that can represent one or more other characters. In Omnitracs XRS, an underscore (_) can represent a single character in a search string; a percent sign (%) can represent zero or more characters. This feature is especially useful if you don't know the full vehicle name or ID.

If you are searching by vehicle ID and enter “3_6” in the search field, for instance, the search will return vehicles with IDs that include the numbers 3 and 6 and have only one unknown character between the two strings. 3561, 346, and 1232657 would all show up in the search results using this wildcard.

If you enter “3%6” in the search field, on the other hand, the search will return any vehicle with an ID that includes the numbers 3 and 6 and has zero or more unknown characters between the two numbers. In this case, 3561, 350062, and 136 would all show up in the search results.

If you are searching for a vehicle where an underscore or percent sign is part of the name or ID, insert a backslash before the special character: \_ or \%.

Exporting Results

To export results:

  1. Select Export. A .CSV file containing the device information is created.
  2. Open the file or save it to your local hard drive.

If an Export Failed message appears:

  1. Select OK.
  2. Re-enter your search criteria and select Enter.
  3. Select Export.

If you try to export an unusually large number of records, you might receive a message telling you the request has timed out because too many records were requested.

You can decrease the number of records by filtering the vehicle list by Organization, Status, Resource Group, or a combination of the criteria.

Importing Data

To import data, select Import. See attached Import Vehicle Records into Omnitracs XRS.

Sorting Results

To hide or show columns, hover your mouse in the right corner of any column and select the drop-down arrow that appears. Next, select or clear the check boxes to display only those columns you need to see.

You can also sort the data based on specific columns by selecting or deselecting the column headings.

Uninstall a Relay

To uninstall a Relay, select the chain link icon  in the Actions column of the Manage Vehicles window. You receive a prompt asking if you are sure you want to uninstall the Relay from the vehicle.

Select Yes to uninstall the Relay from the  vehicle.
